My End of Year List of Amazing things and such

2008 has been a wonderful year.
Strange. Lovely. Awful. Incredible. Lazy. Busy. Etc.
A year unlike any other, as all years should be.
For me, even though I wasn't necessarily 'working' I was watching.
And here's my list of things form pop culture which rocked my world in
some way.

1. ALBUM THAT SURPASSED ALL OTHERS



Without doubt, I admire Kanye West more than any artist on the scene at the moment.
And I wouldn't call myself a die hard fan. In fact I don't own a single one of his albums apart from 808's and Heartbreak. I started noticing Kanye after his Mother died - and how he handled himself publicly by pouring his grief into music. His Glow in the Dark tour tried to re invent the live experience. I still think u2's ZooTV still hasn't been trumped but full points for trying. 808's is a concept record with heartache at the centre and a complete disregard for expectations. I admire it immensely.

2. ALBUM THAT MADE ME SMILE



Neon Neon is the name of the band and Stainless Style was the name of the album.
Concept record about the inventor of the 80's classic car the Deloreon (google it.. Back to the Future fans should know this off by heart..)

3. MAN I'D LIKE TO BE BEST FRIENDS WITH



He's probably the smartest and funniest man alive (after my partner!) - he's an incredible actor, writer and host of the braniac's wet dream t.v show Q.I.
And I just love him. Stephen Fry.

4. THING WE'RE MOST SICK OF



Enough said!

5. THING I MOST DESIRED BUT DIDN'T GET



They are limited edition Hyperdunks by Nike based on the anti gravity boots worn by Marty McFly in 'Back to the Future 2'. Can't imagine wearing them but my gawd they're cool!

6. ALBUM THAT MOST STIRRED MY SOUL



7. MOST STYLISH MAN



I love that he ditched Gucci and then went on to launch his own brand.
His perfumes are incredible and his men's clothes are amazing if not completely unaffordable. Tom Ford.

8. FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO



Although 'I kissed a Girl' was a much bigger hit, 'Hot and Cold' by Katy Perry is one of the funniest and most fun music vids this year. I love that we see Katy's personality - who is a self confessed dork - and it vaguely reminds me of The Wedding Singer meets Crush 1980Me.

9. FAVOURITE TELEVISION SHOW



Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a comedy genius and this new television show is her finest achievement.

10. FAVOURITE CHARACTER SINCE E.T



The last third of the film was a bit too Disney for me, but this character and his nuances were the most fully fleshed and endearing of anything since I fell in love with E.T as a kid. And he has the same name as my dog - Wall-E!

11. COOLEST ROCK STAR



Band of brothers led by Caleb Followill - the coolest of them all.
I direct you to the 'Sex on Fire' video and I rest my case.
Kings of Leon were the coolest band and their lead singer the Coolest rock star. For ages.

12. BEST PROTEST SIGN



Genius.

13. THING THE HUMAN RACE WILL BE ASHAMED OF IN 30 YEARS



Prop 8. I've already said it a gazillion times. So instead of getting angry I thought I'd post a picture of Homer Simpson marrying two blokes.

14. COOLEST STYLE AND DESIGN ICON



We end where we begin.
Mr West is tres stylish and I look forward to what he'll do next year no matter what it is.

So that was my 'list'.
